The film's greatest strength is its use of practical special effects. Hatchet 3 is a modern horror film that heavily relies on CG effects. Hatchet 3 focuses mainly on realistic makeup effects and sets. The result is terrifying scenes.
The cast is strong and the lead actor Kane Hodder proving to be an intimidating villain. The dialogue is hilarious and clever enough to make it feel like a slasher (blog post) movie from the 80s. There are some really funny moments that offer an entertaining contrast to the heartbreaking violence.
Due to the budget being $1 million, most places were reused from earlier movies. The house on the lake that was used twice in the film was a prime instance. A lot of the film appears to be a re-use from other movies in the franchise. The Hatchet and Hatchet 2 films may feel like it's a familiar film.
In the end, Hatchet 3 was very enjoyable. I found it to be very similar to other entries in the series. However, Hatchet 3 provided lots of thrilling thrills and hilarious performances from its actors.
